5 Common Wardrobe Mistakes | Richmond Hill, GA Portrait Photographer

You take time to research and find the perfect photographer for your session, secure a date and select the perfect location. And then panic sets in as you realize you now have to start putting together wardrobe options.

We understand that whether it’s for senior, family, child, or a maternity session, figuring out what to wear can be a stressful part of planning a portrait session. That’s why, when you book with us, we will send you a PDF with tons of wardrobe inspiration. For our maternity and newborn clients, we have a wonderfully stocked client closet with over 60 gorgeous options.

Since knowledge is key, we’ve put together 5 common wardrobe mistakes people tend to make while choosing pieces for their photography session. Let’s dive in!

1. Forgetting to Account for Movement: Consider how your outfits will look when you’re moving. Outfits that are too tight or stiff might not allow for a lot of posing options (like squatting, or sitting down poses), while tailored fits and flowy fabric allow for more versatility when it comesto posing ideas.

2. Ignoring Footwear: Shoes can significantly impact the overall look of your outfit. Don’t overlook footwear—make sure to wear shoes that complement your outfit and are appropriate for the setting of your photo shoot.

3. Sticking to the Same Colors: While a cohesive color palette can be chic, your session is all about expressing unique personalities! Embrace a vibrant mix of colors that complement your skin tone for a stunning variety. If you prefer one or two colors, play around with different shades to keep it interesting!

4. Leaving Out Accessories: Want to elevate your outfit from ordinary to standout? Accessories are the magic touch! Bring along some hats, scarves, belts, or jewelry to enhance your looks and add that perfect finishing touch.

5. Overdoing Trends: Trends can be fun, but they shouldn’t overshadow your personal style! If fashionista isn’t your everyday vibe, stick to wardrobe pieces that feel authentically you. You can always add a trendy piece as an accessory to give your outfit a modern twist without losing your essence.
