Matching Your Portraits to Your Home | Richmond Hill Photographer

One of the main reasons for scheduling a photography session is to display the images in your home. How do you decide which photos will look best? Believe it or not, the process of picking your images actually starts before your session even begins!

Prior to scheduling, it’s important to consider how you would like to display the images in your home. In fact, your photographer will more than likely ask you this question anyway. Ideally, your portraits should complement the interior and colors in your home. This is why it’s essential to communicate with your photographer before your session.

Here are some additional tips to help you find the perfect balance between your décor and wall art.

Pay attention to your photographer’s style.

Before you hire a photographer, ensure their style is what you’re looking for. Opt for a style that’s timeless – this usually involves neutral tones and minimal props. This way, you can move your wall art between rooms or even homes without worrying about whether it matches your décor.

Consider your personal style.

If you plan on updating your portraits on a fairly regular basis, look at the current style of your home and plan your session accordingly. As your style changes, your wall art can update, too!

Where do you plan to display your portraits?

It helps to have a good idea of where you want to display your portraits. Some shots are best displayed as large prints, while others can be smaller but grouped together. Some of our clients prefer to invest in albums instead, with additional smaller portraits that are perfect for bookcases and desks.

Along with ensuring your wall art matches your home, speak to your photographer about the different printing options. While traditional prints remain popular, there are many other unique options to display your images including on canvas, wood, metal, or within stunning frames. There is definitely a selection for all style types!
