5 Red Flags When Hiring a Photographer | Richmond Hill Photographer

Ask in any FB group for a photographer and you know a list of roughly 2,000 names will pop up. It can definitely be challenging to cull through the names in an attempt to find a photographer that fits your style, timeframe, and budget. If you’re in the market for a new photographer, here are 5 RED FLAGS to look out for when it comes to hiring one!

1. Lack of Portfolio: If a photographer isn’t able to provide a comprehensive
portfolio showcasing their work over the past several years, it might be a sign of inexperience or inconsistency in their style. Always ask to see examples of their previous portrait work.

2. Overly Edited Photos: While some editing is expected and normal, if their portfolio images look excessively edited—like unnatural skin tones or overly brightened eyes—it may indicate a lack of skill in capturing quality shots in the first place.

3. No Client Reviews or Testimonials: A lack of online reviews or testimonials could signal unproven service. Look for photographers with positive feedback to ensure a good track record.

4. Unclear Pricing or Hidden Fees: Watch out for photographers who are not transparent about their pricing structure. Ambiguities about session fees, print costs, or digital file charges can lead to unexpected expenses and disappointment.

5. No Contract Offered: Always expect a clear contract that outlines the terms of service, including session details, deliverables, and payment terms. A lack of contract can lead to misunderstandings or unmet expectations.

By keeping an eye out for these red flags, you can choose a photographer who
will beautifully capture your important milestones in a professional and satisfying
manner. Want more session advice?!? Email us at megan@meganmyrickphotography or call the studio at 912.200.5284. We’d love to help make your vision come true!
