Many of you already know that before I became a stay-at-home mom and small business woman, I was a teacher. First grade teacher in fact, and happily for 10 years. I loved being a teacher, knew it was a career path I was meant to follow. I’ve been out of the public schools for a little over five years, and there are days I really and truly miss it. I miss seeing the kids’ smiling faces in the morning, playing with them on the playground, watching their eyes light up when they read their first sentence. I even miss the parents who became my friends (some whom I still am in contact with today). Thankfully I am able to re-live some of these precious moments through my own children, ages five and three.
I suppose it is no surprise that when I began my photography journey and decided that I wanted to open a business, that I was naturally drawn towards child portraiture. Children have been a huge part of my life for so long, and I feel like I connect with them on an entirely different level. I just get kids. I love them happy, sad, frustrated, crying, laughing, quiet and content. I am as much of a sucker for an image of a huge chuckle as I am of a serious, thoughtful face.
I have been fortunate enough to photograph preschools for the last three years and it is a job I always look forward to. In fact, I hope to add a school or two next year. I only spend about ten minutes with each student, but you can learn so much about a person in that short amount of time. Especially little people who genuinely wear their hearts on their sleeves and aren’t afraid to show you who they really are.
Here are a few more of my favorites from this year’s preschool.

Moms & Dads, thank you for allowing me to have a few precious moments with your kids. I can’t wait until next year.
